Mr. and Mrs. Granger are dentists. They accept the Wizarding World and Hermione's place in it, but they do not approve of using magic for quick fixes.

Harry is Hermione's best friend and the Boy Who Lived. They have been friends since he and Ron rescued her from the mountain troll. He is good at Quidditch and Defense Against the Dark Arts. He is Captain and Seeker for Gryffindor's Quidditch team, and he was the leader of Dumbledore's Army while it lasted. In their fourth year, he was the fourth champion in the Triwizard Tournament, and he witnessed Voldemort's revival and Cedric's death after successfully reaching the Triwizard Cup. His scar connects him to Voldemort, giving him flashes of insight into Voldemort's mind. It was Harry's vision that led Harry, Hermione, Ron, Neville, Luna and Ginny, along with many Order members, to the battle of Department of Mysteries. Trelawney's prophecy says that he will either kill Voldemort or be killed by him.

Ron is Hermione's other best friend. As the sixth of seven children, he is sometimes jealous of Harry's fame, and he can be touchy about his family's lack of fortune. However, he is very loyal to his friends and his family. He enjoys playing chess and his chess skill helped Harry cross the Transfigured chessboard in their first year. He is an avid Quidditch fan, supports the Chudley Cannons and plays Keeper on the House Quidditch team. In his fifth year, he joined Dumbledore's Army and fought in the battle of the Department of Mysteries. He also defended Hogwarts against Death Eaters in his sixth year.

Neville is the son of Frank and Alice Longbottom, who were Aurors until they were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange. Neville can be forgetful and often has trouble performing magic, but he is skilled at Herbology. He does not fit the typical Gryffindor image, but he has his own kind of bravery. Snape picked on Neville often and mercilessly, but Hermione helped him out. His pet toad, Trevor, is often lost. He was a member of Dumbledore's Army and fought bravely in the battle of the Department of Mysteries. He and Luna were the only two students to come at the call of the D.A. coin when Death Eaters attacked Hogwarts.

Ginny is a close friend of Hermione and Ron's little sister. She wrote in Riddle's diary and opened the Chamber of Secrets in her first year; Harry rescued her after being taken into the Chamber. She had an enormous crush on Harry and pined after him for years, until giving up on him in her fourth year with Hermione's advice; however, when she dated Harry in her fifth year, she told him that she never really gave up on him. She was a member of Dumbledore's Army and fought in the battle of the Department of Mysteries; she also defended Hogwarts when Death Eaters attacked. She seems to take after the twins and is particularly skilled at the Bat-Bogey Hex. Ginny is popular, pretty, and tends to get away with things no other character can.

Luna is a Ravenclaw in Ginny's year. She has an open mind and many unusual beliefs and habits; as a result, she has few friends and is called "Loony" behind her back. She often has a way of saying uncomfortable truths. Her father is the editor of The Quibbler. Luna believed Harry about Voldemort when most people thought he was crazy and she got her father to print his interview with Rita. She joined Dumbledore's Army and was the only non-Gryffindor member to fight in the battle of the Department of Mysteries. Neville and Luna were the only two D.A. students to come at the call of the D.A. coin when Death Eaters attacked Hogwarts.

Fred and George are clever practical jokers and magical inventors. They played Beaters for Gryffindor during their time at Hogwarts. They left Hogwarts before graduating, in defiance of Delores Umbridge, and ordered Peeves to "give her hell from us." With the help of Harry's Triwizard winnings, they started a joke shop, Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes, which is extremely successful. Even Hermione, who normally frowns on any kind of rule breaking, admires the skill and magic involved in making their inventions.
